In the latest issue of InvestEd Intelligence, the Securities and Futures Commission (SFC) briefly discusses the implications of the Securities and Futures (Amendment) Ordinance 2012 gazetted in early May.

Mr Andrew Young, the SFC’s Chief Counsel of Legal Services, describes in this issue’s “Sounding Board” the new law, which requires listed corporations to disclose inside information, allows the SFC to refer cases directly to the Market Misconduct Tribunal and paves the way for the establishment of the Investor Education Centre.

The “Market Focus” column discusses how the Qualified Foreign Institutional Investor (QFII), Qualified Domestic Institutional Investor (QDII) and Renminbi Qualified Foreign Institutional Investor (RQFII) schemes are a key feature of investment in and out of mainland China.

The “Case in Point” column reminds investors of the considerable risks of trading leveraged foreign exchange contracts offshore, including problems with cold callers. May’s “IE Activities Planner” invites the public to view new interview segments on Now TV from late May where market professionals share their views on a range of issues including investing in overseas companies and including bonds in an investment portfolio.

InvestEd Intelligence is a bimonthly newsletter, which provides a diverse range of educational information about investing. Topical market issues, product development information and regulatory updates are covered regularly. The newsletter is published at the SFC’s InvestEd site on or around the 20th day of every other month.
